On December 26th, more commonly known in England as “Boxing Day,” the Albuquerque Sol hosted the first ever Boxing Day Bash, presented by Cultivating Coders. The event was an afternoon long celebration of soccer in the friendly confines of the International Indoor Soccer Arena. Whilst 32 gamers & soccer enthusiasts competed in a FIFA Video Game Tournament, another 60+ soccer players ranging from 8 years old to 58 years old played pick up soccer games all afternoon on the indoor turf. It was a fun time for all and many fans even stayed after for a beer and a pizza at PK’s Bar & Grill inside of the arena.

Proudly presenting the tournament to ABQ was Cultivating Coders, a coding bootcamp which trains students how to code and build websites. Local 2 store gaming chain, Gamers Anonymous also sponsored the events by providing Xboxes and copies of the FIFA 17 video game.

The winner of the tournament was 16 year old Connor Starr. Connor is a youth soccer player who plays for local youth club Rio Rapids Soccer Club. He has two other brothers who play soccer in the club and is very familiar with the Sol as the family business, Starr Brothers Brewing, is host to many Sol events.

It was a great afternoon of soccer and fun that is sure to grow in years to come. Happy Holidays and thanks to everyone who participated making it a very special holiday!
